Doris Mae Givens

Doris M. Givens, 96, of Lubbock, died Thursday, September 28, 2023. Graveside services will be at 2pm on Thursday, October 5, at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Doris was born December 30, 1926, in Fluvanna, Texas, to Jesse and Velma (Fulford) Bley. Doris was raised in Fluvanna. She attended Abilene Christian College where she received her B.S. degree. Doris married Fred Givens July 3, 1947, in Abilene. Doris taught school at all levels in Texas, North Carolina, and California as she moved around the country with her husband and his work. She moved to Lubbock in 1978.

She was a member of the Church of Christ, and she did mission work with her husband in Trinidad, Belgium, and Austria. She helped develop a children’s Sunday School curriculum which was widely used throughout the state of Texas. Her passions included service to her Lord, her family, gardening, and travel.

Survivors include 3 children: Randal and wife Carol of Cincinnati, Cathy Givens of Lubbock, Lorna Givens of Lubbock; grandchildren, Mary Gould and husband Brian, Anna Givens, Rachel Berlingeri, and Michael Berlingeri; great grandchild Aletheia Joy Gould.
