Dorothy Rackler, 88, passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 in Lubbock, TX. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015 at Resthaven Funeral Home. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Shallowater with interment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Dorothy was born February 11, 1927 in Levelland, Texas to Lindsey Lee and Virgie Mae (Weatherford) Rucker and was raised around the Lubbock area. She married the love of her life William Carl Rackler on August 8, 1945. She helped on the farm and was also a stay-at-home mom until she started working for Elmer's weights in 1970; she worked there for 25 years. Dorothy was a very hard worker and took her job very seriously. While she was a stay-at-home wife and mother she made wedding dresses, bridesmaids dresses, her dress and wedding cakes. She also loved to cook and draw, she grew a garden and canned vegetables at the end of summer. We all remember snapping beans and shelling peas. She was an occasional dentist pulling the grandkids teeth when mom felt a little queasy about it. Mother was very excitable like the time Carlene was in labor with Randall, when they stopped by to pick up mother she fainted from the excitement, kept Carlene waiting even longer until she came too. One time she was checking on us, she felt sick and fainted, fell against the door and daddy couldn't open it to see about her. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Carl; her parents; 2 sisters, Glenda and Erma; and a grandson, Randall. She is survived by her four children, Carlene Reams, Wanda Randolph, Judy Dempsey, and Sandra Putz; sister, Margaret Wilhite; brother, Sonny Rucker; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
