Dr. Robert N Arnold, 88, passed away Sunday March 3, 2013 in Lubbock. He was born May 10, 1924 in Petrolia, Texas to Carl and Gladys Arnold. He moved to Floydada, Texas in 1937 where he graduated from Floydada High in 1941. Robert married Mavis “Louise” Willson in Baltimore, Maryland August 25, 1949.
Robert graduated from Texas Tech in 1944 and the University of Texas Medical School Galveston in 1949. He served an internship at Baltimore Marine Hospital 1949-1950, served an Obstetrics-Gynecology residency in Methodist Hospital 1950-1951 as well as in Parkland Hospital 1953-1955. Robert was a member of the American College of Obstetrics-Gynecology, a Diplomate of American Board of Obstetrics-Gynecology, a member of Texas Medical Association, and Lubbock-Crosby-Garza County Medical Society. He served on the Lubbock County Health Board for 5 years, served on staff of Methodist Hospital, St Mary’s of the Plains Hospital and University Medical Center Hospital. Robert served as Chief of Staff, 3 times as Chief of Ob-Gyn Section, at one point chaired the Education, Credentials and records committees.
Robert was in the military services with the U.S. Public Health Service from 1951-1953. He opened his Obstetrics- Gynecology office in Lubbock in July 1955 and retired from practice January 1990.
He was a member of the Southwest Lubbock Rotary Club for 15 yrs and served as President. He was a member of St John’s United Methodist Church and a Board Member of the Helen Jones Foundation.
He was a scout with BSA Troop 57, Floydada, becoming an Eagle Scout. Robert served on the South Plains Council of BSA serving as District Chairman for 5 years, Council Finance Chairman 2 years, Council Advancement Chairman 2 years, Council Health and Safety Chairman 1 year and Council Camping Chairman 3 years. He was a Webelos Den master, Troop 522 Asst. Scoutmaster, Troop 406 Asst. Scoutmaster. He was the holder of the Silver Beaver, Wood Badge Beads and was a National Camp Visitation Specialist.
Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, two sons, Richard Arnold and his wife Tambi, his daughters Kristine and Lindsey and granddaughter Madison and James C Arnold and his wife, Kathleen G Arnold and his son Robert G Arnold and wife Nicole R Arnold, and daughter Kaitlyn E Arnold.
Visitation will be held Thursday March 7, 2013 from 7 to 9 pm in Resthaven Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Friday March 8 at 2 pm in Resthaven Memorial Park.
