

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, 4402 40th Street, with burial following at Peaceful Gardens in Woodrow. Visitation will be offered on Saturday at Bethany Baptist Church from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Family and friends may leave online condolences at Resthaven Funeral Home’s website, www.dignitymemorial.com. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given in her memory to the Dementia Society of America via the website, www.dementiasociety.org.
Edna Faye Walker was born on August 4, 1942, in Bisbee, Arizona, to Kenneth and Zettie (Duckett) Walker. Her childhood was spent in Lubbock where she graduated from Monterey High School in 1960. She married George Richard Mars in 1961, and they had three children. After their divorce, Edna continued to live and work in Lubbock. Later in life, she earned an Associate’s degree from South Plains College and then a Bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University. Soon thereafter she moved to Louisiana to help care for her parents. Edna returned to Lubbock for several years before moving to Kimball, Nebraska, in 2008, to be near her son and grandchildren. In August 2022, she returned to Lubbock to be with her daughters and their families. Throughout the years, Edna especially enjoyed painting landscapes, doing puzzles, reading, watching western movies and the Hallmark channel.
Survivors include: her daughters Gwenda (Jack) Criddle and Donna (Fain) Smith, both of Lubbock; son Kenneth (Vickie) Mars of Cody, Wyoming; grandchildren (12) Sammy, Christopher, Bridgette, Joshua, Nathaniel, Maria, Timothy, Patrick, Lydia, Sirena, Abigail, and Noah; great-grandchildren (12) Emily, Caleigh, Lexi, Grayson, Austin, Patrick, Daniella, Makayla, Kade, Breanna, Kimberly, and Kaden; great great-grandchildren (4), Joshua, Bentley, Cooper, and Melanie; and her sister Elaine Pecanty of Monterey, Louisiana. Edna was preceded in death by her parents and brother Jack Walker.
