

Elbert Kay Goyne, age 88, passed away Friday April 25th, 2014 in Portales, New Mexico. He was born on February 21st, 1926 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Thomas Dee Goyne and Sarah Suzann Goyne. Survivors include his wife, Joan Francis Goyne, of the home, one son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Ronda Goyne of Portales, one daughter, Paula Smith, of Frisco, Texas; four grandchildren, Daniel Goyne and Nathan Goyne and his wife, Hanna, both of Clovis, NM, Joshua Smith and his wife, Amber, of Crowley, TX and Miranda Johnston and her husband, Chad, of Frisco, TX; one sister, Joyce Hallford, of Portales and a brother Thomas ‘Bud’ Goyne of Albuquerque, NM; and eight great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, two sisters, and one son-in-law, Kent Smith, of Frisco, TX.
After graduating from high school in Portales in May 1944, he entered the US Navy and served aboard a troop transport as a Seaman 1st class in World War II Pacific
Campaign. He was discharged in June 1946, returned to Portales, and farmed for a few years. He worked several different jobs until he started working in the automotive parts business and maintained that career until his retirement. He married Joan Francis Elliott on December, 15th 1954.
A memorial service will be held at Monday, April 28th at 2:00 pm MDT at Third and Kilgore Church of Christ in Portales, NM. Burial will be held Tuesday April 29th at 11:00 am CDT at Resthaven Memorial Park, 5740 W. 19th Street, Lubbock, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home in Portales, NM- 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130.
