Louise was born in Greenup County, Kentucky to James Elbert and Sarah Elizabeth White on June 11, 1930. She was the youngest of 5 children and grew up in Ohio and Kentucky around the area of Portsmouth, Ohio. A niece and nephew, Annie and Jim DeHoff, became part of the family at a young age. Louise graduated from Stockdale High School and studied at the Portsmouth branch of Ohio State University, while working as a telephone operator at the same time. After two years, Louise taught a year in Kentucky at a one-room school with all eight grades, before transferring to and graduating from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas in 1953. She then began a career of teaching elementary school for a total of 31 years.
She married Glen A. Lucas, known as Tod, of Whiteface, Texas in February, 1955 in Sciotoville, Ohio and moved to Levelland, Texas. Glen was a farmer and Louise worked as a telephone operator until the birth of their children, Jeffrey Boyd and Rebecca (Becky) Lynn. Glen died in a farming accident in May, 1960 and Louise and the children moved to Columbus, Ohio for 6 years before returning to Whiteface, Texas. While in Columbus, she owned and operated an ice cream parlor, taught school and purchased her first rental property. Louise continued to invest in rental properties throughout her life to provide for herself and her children.
In March, 1969, Louise married James Albert Miller and moved back to Levelland. Albert had two daughters, Ann Miller Wright (Tommy) and Nancy Miller Walker (Terry). Their family grew with the addition of grandchildren, Shelley Walker Jones, Jarrod Walker, Robin Walker Rasco, Jeremy Wright and Richard Wright. Albert died in March, 1986
Louise taught kindergarten in Sundown, Texas for many years. After retiring, Louise attended Sunset School of Preaching (now SIBI) in Lubbock, graduating in 1991. One of the instructors and minister for the deaf at Sunset, Robert (Bob) H. Anderson was a classmate at Harding and after attending a college reunion together, they began dating and married in April, 1994. Bob also brought children into the family, Robin Anderson Hindsley (Don), April Anderson Nunn (Rick) and Christopher Anderson (Linda). They were soon joined by Jeff and Becky’s spouses, Sharon Doffing Lucas and Keith Purser and more grandchildren, Brittney Nunn Horn (Michael), Brianna Nunn, Janelle Purser, Dan Purser, Melissa Purser (Jack Snodgrass), Kristen Purser Butterfield, Alexandra Doffing, Katherine Doffing Wu (George), Zachary Lucas, Jordan Lucas, Sierra Anderson, Makaylee Anderson & Lillie Anderson. Great-grandchildren, Alexis Francis, Brandon Francis, Haley Purser, Samanatha Purser, Autumn Purser, Aurora Horn, and great-great-grandson Jaxon Burche.
The most important part of Louise’s life was her faith in God. She was very active in the church, teaching Bible classes to all ages and following her marriage to Bob, working with the deaf ministry. She was variously a member of Whiteface Church of Christ, Austin St. and Cactus Dr. Churches of Christ in Levelland and most recently Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock. She continued to minister to those she met at Grand Court and Remington Park facilities where she lived the last few years. She supported many missionaries she met through Sunset and several AIM students. She welcomed countless people into her home for meals or to stay.
Louise was a talented seamstress but never had enough time to make everything she wanted or planned to. She enjoyed crafts, especially with her grandkids. Louise loved music and was known for her beautiful low alto voice. For many years she was a member and officer of the Music Club of Levelland and also sang with the Sweet Adelines in Lubbock.
In her later years, Louise enjoyed teaching English to foreign students and gained lifelong friends especially from China and Korea.
Louise's love of travel took her all over the United States and to places as far away as Israel, Egypt, the Philippines and many other countries in Asia and in Europe. Most of these trips were to help spread the gospel message.
Louise was very social. She loved to visit with family and friends, finding joy and laughter wherever she went. Her loving, helpful nature and happy laughter will be greatly missed.
