From her earliest days, Emily knew she was deeply loved - by a generous Creator, by a nurturing and inclusive community of faith, and by a family that treasured her. That love became the foundation of the life she lived. She offered it freely to everyone she met.
Emily graduated from Coronado High School before earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre from Texas State University. Whether performing on stage, appearing in film, singing, creating art, tending plants, or simply sharing life with friends, Emily brought imagination, laughter, and authenticity to everything she did.
For eight years, she shared her life with her husband, Adam Edwards of Kerrville. Together they embraced the whimsical, deepened one another’s love for music, art, animals, and adventure, and discovered that our nationality is humankind.
Emily possessed a rare gift: she made people feel seen. She welcomed strangers as friends, celebrated the successes of others more enthusiastically than her own, and carried an unwavering compassion for every living thing. She loved animals, delighted in the beauty of creation, and believed deeply in the dignity and equality of every person. Injustice stirred her heart, while kindness came as naturally as breathing.
Those who knew Emily will remember her radiant smile, her playful spirit, her generous heart, and the light she quietly carried into every room. She lived with the conviction that love is not something we merely believe; it is something we practice.
Emily was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Charles and Kathleen Darwin of Brownfield, Texas, and her maternal grandmother, Gladys Bradley Freeman of Lubbock, Texas.
She is survived by her parents, Howard and Patti Darwin; her beloved dogs, Charlie and Sansa; her Honorary Aunts, Vickie Donaghy and Debbie Walker; her cherished friend, Allison Knutson; and a large, loving family of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, fellow artists, and countless others whose lives are richer because they shared time with her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 10th, 2026, at Second Baptist Church, 6109 Chicago Avenue, Lubbock, Texas, 79424. Visitation with the family will follow the service. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed at secondb.org.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Emily’s memory are invited to contribute to the Emily Darwin Memorial Fund at Second Baptist Church. The fund has been established to advance the organizations and causes that reflected Emily’s lifelong commitments to compassion, justice, the care of creation, the arts, and the dignity of every person. Through these gifts, Emily’s love will continue to find new expressions in the lives of others.
Emily’s years were far too few, but love has never been measured by time. Her legacy is found in person she welcomed, every life she encouraged, every act of kindness she inspired, and every heart made gentler because she was here. She leaves us with the enduring reminder that, in the end, love is what binds us together.
We commend Emily to the boundless love of the God she trusted, grateful that while her earthly story ended too soon, Love itself never ends.
