

Emma Laurel Atwood, 94, of Georgetown, TX, joined our Lord and Savior on Friday, April 25, 2025. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am in Lubbock, TX at Resthaven Memorial Park under the care of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Emma Bella Laurel was born on January 30, 1931, in Laredo, TX to Ernesto Laurel and Olivia Gonzalez Laurel. Following her formative years, her occupations included administrative and office management roles in San Antonio, TX (Kelly Air Force Base) and Midland, TX (Union Oil Company of California) and Lubbock, TX (Smith & Sweet Masonry Contractors), but it was as a dance instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Midland where she met her husband of 46½ years, Rossie Garrison Atwood, Jr. They married on July 30, 1955, in San Antonio and were blessed with four children: Trey, Kellye, Mike, and Ouida.
Emma and Rossie lived in Midland, TX for 8 years before moving to Lubbock in 1963 where they lived together until Rossie’s passing in January of 2002. Emma remained in their family home for another 16 years before moving to Midland, and then to Georgetown in 2019.
Emma will be forever remembered by her family and friends as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her involvement in and dedication to her children’s sports and club activities went above and beyond. She was a caregiver who always put others first and was a wonderful cook, artist/painter, and seamstress.
Emma is survived by two sons, Trey (Gina) Atwood and Mike (Eileen) Atwood of Georgetown; one daughter, Ouida Atwood (John) of Midland; one sister, Lucy Cardenas Garza of San Pablo, CA; six grandchildren, Lauren (James), Michael (Erika), Ryan, Brian, Connor, and Nicholas (Sue); and five great-grandchildren, Ethan and Emma, Heemi, Mikaere, Luca, Roen, and Rossi.
She is preceded in death by her husband Rossie in 2002; her baby girl Kellye Ann in 1961; her mother and father; her brother Ernesto Laurel Jr.; and her sister, Laura Laurel Moren.
