She was born to Grover Cleveland and Johnnie Cabler Clark in Baylor County, Texas on December 1, 1923, the sixth of seven children. Life was challenging for the Clark family after the Great Depression and the death of her mother in 1929, which left Eva, at age six, to be raised by her brothers and sisters. She was educated in Baylor County and arrived in Lubbock in 1940 with her sister, Eula Mae, and brother-in-law, anticipating an exciting new life at age 17. By coincidence, an automobile accident on Lubbock's Broadway Avenue caused her to meet Ray Sessums, a young cattlebuyer and auctioneer. They married in 1941 and were married for 51 years. Eva was the consummate homemaker, mother, familiar neighbor and friend in her Ben Hall Manor neighborhood for over sixty years. She served as the church secretary for Parkdale Baptist Church and was actively involved in the Brown Elementary School PTA. She was known for the beautiful roses in her yard, her chocolate meringue pie, and Ray's heavily starched khakis which he proudly wore to work at the Lubbock Livestock Auction on Ave. D. Eva's favorite pastimes were having dinner in the backyard among the drone of the cicadas in the cottonwood trees, and listening to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. She was very competitive and enjoyed playing 42 with friends and croquet with her family and winning twenty-five cents a game. She watched the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros, but attended almost every Texas Tech home football game until she was 92 years old. She had a soft heart for stray cats and loved all animals.
In her working life, Eva was the manager and buyer for bed and bath at W.D. Wilkins for many years.
After Ray's death in 1992, she lived independently in her own home until 2016, and at age 92, she moved to the Isle at Raider Ranch in Lubbock. She was preceded in death by her parents, G.C. and Johnnie Clark, her husband, Ray Sessums, her brothers, Norman, G.D., Homer, Calvin and her sisters, Eula Mae and Maggie, sons-in-laws Jim Weston and Mike Morgan.
She is survived by her daughters Shirley Weston of Katy and Carol Morgan of Lubbock, granddaughter, Debbie Roobaert (Preston)of Katy and grandson, Andrew Morgan of Lubbock.
