She graduated from Estacado High School in 1977 and later attended the University of Houston and Texas Southern University, where she pursued computer science. In a field that demanded discipline and resilience, she stood steady and determined.
D’Nell was employed by Texas Instruments, the Lubbock State School, and the Citibus System. She believed in doing things the right way. She believed in showing up. If she gave her word, it held.
She was baptized at a young age at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Wichita Falls under the pastoral leadership of Rev. R. L. Castle. During her college years, D’Nell made a confession of faith in Jesus and later attended Community Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Tony Williams.
She cherished journaling, filling pages with reflections that marked the seasons of her life. If you knew D’Nell, you know that she also loved a wide range of music and its ability to convey depth and emotion when even her words fell short.
Her loyalty was quiet but immovable. She held true to her beliefs with conviction, standing firm even when it required strength others could not see. Even until the very end, she fought.
She now joins in heaven her mother, Olevia, and her brother, Pierre, reunited in a peace that is whole and eternal.
Those who remain to honor her life and carry her memory forward are her father, Willie Laster of Lubbock; her sister, Greta Brooks (Larry) of Lubbock; her sister-in-law, Rosie Laster of San
Antonio; and her beloved nieces, Candice and Brittany Laster, and Sarah, Elisabeth, and Anna Brooks, and a host of other relatives and friends, who will forever be shaped by her steadfast devotion and quiet courage.
D’Nell stood firm. She loved deeply. She fought bravely. Her fight is finished, her faith made sight.
