Freddie Nell Summerlin

Freddie Nell Summerlin, 88, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on August 28, 2026. Born July 8, 1938, in Spur, Texas, Freddie was the daughter of Laudy and Reba Dane. From her earliest years, she carried herself with a steady, kind-hearted spirit that would remain a defining part of her life and legacy.

Freddie attended Lubbock High School and graduated with the class of 1956.

For many years, Freddie worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an Executive Secretary. In that role, she was hard-working and dependable, providing vital support to those she assisted by keeping schedules running smoothly and ensuring the office remained in top operating order. Her dedication was evident not only in what she accomplished, but in the thoughtful, steady way she served others day after day.

On June 29th, 1973, she married James “Buck” Summerlin. Together they shared 50 beautiful years of marriage, until his passing in 2023. Freddie built a loving home for her two sons and took great pride in preparing delicious homemade meals for those she held most dear to her heart—simple, meaningful expressions of devotion that made others feel welcomed, cared for, and cherished.

A devoted member of Indiana Baptist church, Freddie loved to attend bible study, finding comfort and purpose in her faith and in the fellowship of her church community. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her family will remember her with gratitude for the steadfast love she gave so freely.

Freddie was preceded in death by her parents, Laudy and Reba Dane; her beloved husband, James "Buck" Summerlin; her sisters, Dorothy Dane, and Jerry Armstrong; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Those left to carry on Freddie's legacy include her sons, Randy Smith, and Kelly Smith; her grandchildren, Magen Reaves, Morgan Stone, and Dylan Smith; her great-grandchildren, Preslee Reaves, Blain Reaves, Kanon Reaves, Rush Reaves, Beckham Stone, Maverick Stone, and Jensen Stone; as well as her nieces, Debbie Smith and Cathy Lott and her nephew, Ted Armstrong.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home & Cemetery, 5740 West 19th Street, Lubbock, TX 79407, on September 2, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 5740 19th St, Lubbock, TX 79407, on September 3, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
