A beauty with brains. The disciplinarian and the comforter. Given the name Fredericka by her parents Karl and Pearl Rahm, Fritzie entered this world on November 6, 1932 in New Orleans, LA. After a full life of 89 years, she passed away on December 10, 2021.
After graduation from high school, she left New Orleans to attend SMU. There her life was forever changed when she met Paul, a handsome young man from Lubbock. They fell in love but Paul had to finish his US Navy service before the wedding. In 1952, they were married in New Orleans, and moved to Lubbock to start a life together that lasted over 65 years. Fritzie was a stay at home mom for Paul III (Little Paul), Julia, Keith, and Max. Her life as a homemaker and “short order cook”, kept things on track for her family. It was the fabric of lives stitched together. She instilled a love of reading and the heritage of Lubbock often taking her kids to the Texas Tech Museum. She was a Room Mother and member of the Roscoe Wilson PTA and Cub Scout Den Mother. She attended many ballet recitals and Little League games. Fritzie volunteered many years as treasurer for the Junior League of Lubbock and the Chi Omega Sorority Alumni at Texas Tech. She knew how to stretch the pennies in the family budget as well.
She enjoyed her monthly ladies poker night, riding bikes with her neighborhood friends, and yoga classes. She devoted her life for almost 20 years, as a caregiver to Paul, after he suffered a stroke. Fritzie was very proud of and interested in the activities of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She made sure everyone of them got a birthday card and check on their special day. She loved readingThe Upper Room Daily Devotional, going to restaurants, traveling to New Orleans, watching the Lawrence Welk show, reading the A-J everyday (making sure she completed the Jumble Puzzle) and doing Word Search puzzles.
Her legacy of love, kindness, humor, generosity, and grace will continue on in the lives of her survivors. Son Paul (Vicki), daughter Julia (Mike), son Keith, and son Max (Helena); grandkids Max Kerr (Jeannie), Lindsay Kerr, Jonathan Faulkner, Amanda Faulkner (Thea), and Katherine Faulkner; great-grandkids Atlee, Blaire, and Parker Faulkner, Kiran and Korey Grace Kerr, and Nikaya Kerr. She is also survived by a sister, Maja, of Littleton, CO. These were her pride and joy and a reason for living.
We will remember and celebrate Fritzie’s life on Sunday, January 30th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.
A special thank you to Covenant Hospital, Carillon House, and Hospice of Lubbock for their compassion and care of Fritzie. The family suggests memorials to Lubbock Meals on Wheels. Online condolences may be offered at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com
