George Antonio Garcia, a compassionate soul whose life was a testament to love, family, and faith, bid us farewell on February 18, 2024. Born in Lubbock, Texas (though he claimed Ojinaga, Mexico as his true home), on January 12, 1976, George was the firstborn child of Antonio Martinez Garcia and Luz Elena Dominguez.
George enjoyed sports his whole life and kept his family entertained with his dramatic storytelling. His journey through Smyer High School saw him shine as both an athlete and a class favorite. In 1995, fate intervened, bringing George together with the love of his life, Miranda Renee Alvarado, during their time working together at Burger King. Their connection deepened over the years, leading to a civil marriage on August 29, 2005, followed by a joyous celebration at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church on April 4, 2009, surrounded by family and friends, their shared faith at the core of their relationship.
His involvement in the ACTS community provided him with peace and support, fostering deep connections with his brothers in Christ at his church. George's love extended beyond spiritual bonds; he relished spending time with loved ones, creating cherished memories that became a source of comfort and strength for those fortunate enough to know him.
In his leisure time, George approached life with a humble enthusiasm, whether casting a line into the water, tinkering with his various vehicles, or starching his jeans. His passion extended to his beloved dogs, Loki and Julie, with whom he found solace and peace. As a man of faith, George drew strength and comfort from his Catholic beliefs, shaping his compassionate and giving nature.
George is survived by his devoted wife, Miranda Renee Garcia; his father, Antonio Martinez Garcia, and wife, Liliana Odina Garcia; his mother, Luz Elena Dominguez, and husband, Fabian Briceno; his sister, Carla Herevia, and husband, Albert Herevia; and his brother, Cristian Garcia, and wife, Casey Garcia. In-laws, Louis and Mary Jane Alvarado; brother-in-law, Randy Alvarado; and sister-in-law, Andrea Alvarado Mosqueda, and husband, Jason Mosqueda. George's impact extends to the next generation, as he is also remembered by his five nieces, Lainey, Ennah, Natallia, Elly, and Emery, and three nephews, Ethan, Jaxon, and Easton.
George will be deeply missed, and we are grateful for the 48 years that we had the privilege of sharing this earth with him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to St. Clare Catholic Church.
A viewing & visitation for George will be held Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a rosary 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Resthaven Funeral Home 5740 West 19th St, Lubbock, TX.
A funeral mass will occur Friday, February 23, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Clare Catholic Church, 6104 66th St, Lubbock, TX. A graveside committal service will occur Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Resthaven Memorial Cemetery, 5740 West 19th St, Lubbock, TX.
