Wes was born on May 23, 1943, in Dodge City, Kansas. His mother was Ruby A. Rickman (Renshaw), and his adoptive father was Frank E. Rickman. Wes married Marcilene Jane Spaniol on April 20, 1961, in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Wes had three children: George Wesley Rickman Jr. (Rick), married to BethAnn Rickman of Buchannan, West Virginia; Mark Allen Rickman, married to Carrie Kay Rickman of Falcon, Colorado; and Timothy William Rickman, married to Amy Elizabeth Rickman of Lubbock, Texas.
There are nine grandchildren: Rick and Beth's children are Cassie Rickman, Arianna and Brandt Laymon, Alison and Dalton Bragg, Abigail and Chase Lewellyn; Mark and Carrie's children are Randy and Janette Montalvo, Ashley and Taylor Jones, and Wesley and Jessica Parry-Rickman; Tim and Amy's children are Emily and Stefawn Perrin-Rickman and Amanda and Briley Alexander. Wes and Marcie have twelve great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
Wes was preceded in death by his wife Marcilene, his parents and brother, Randall Rickman. He has one surviving sibling, Bradley Rickman.
Wes was raised on his family's homestead in southwest Kansas and in Dodge City, Kansas. In Dodge City, Wes was a successful high school athlete in baseball, football, and track. Now and then, Wes would refer to his fondest memories of his athletic feats. Into his thirties, Wes enjoyed performing backflips and other feats of strength with his kids in the front yard.
In 1960, Wes served in the Army National Guard (1961–1966). In 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Marcie, in Hutchinson, Kansas, and started on the bottom rung of the retail ladder as a stock boy and shoe salesman for S. H. Kress & Co. After getting the "retail bug," in 1962 Wes moved to another modern-day general store, becoming an assistant manager at TG&Y in Wichita, Kansas. Wes would often refer to TG&Y as "Turtles, Girdles, and Yoyos."
In 1972, Wes landed a store manager position in Longmont, Colorado. While in Longmont, Wes, Marcie, and the kids routinely enjoyed a very active lifestyle of skiing, camping, and the overall Rocky Mountain experience. Many times, Wes and Marcie would pull the kids out of school for the afternoon just to hit the slopes at Eldora Ski Resort — good times! While in Colorado, Wes was promoted to Regional Manager of the Colorado and Western Kansas district.
In 1978, TG&Y asked Wes to serve as Regional Manager in a new district, based in Lubbock, Texas. He remained Regional Manager until 2001, when the TG&Y stores were closed. After 40 years with TG&Y, he moved onto a few years at ALCO and the life insurance business.
Up until his retirement, Wes was active as a Youth Group Leader and usher at Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Wes also enjoyed participating in Boy Scouting events with Rick, Mark, and Tim. Wes and Marcie always required their children to work hard and enjoy life. Wes was very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While he was healthy, Wes and Marcie would travel across the country to enjoy their grandchildren's school and sporting events.
Before Marcie’s death in Jan 25, Wes and Marcie were married for over 63 years.
Wes resided at Raider Ranch retirement community in Lubbock Tx. He passed away peacefully with family, at Crown Point Health Suites, Lubbock Tx.
