He is survived by his wife Charlotte and 2 daughters; Anita O’Hara and husband David of Lubbock and Tamara Rhodes and husband Bryan of Amarillo, TX. He has eight grandchildren; Ashley Hilliard and husband Chad of Round Rock, TX, Emily Pacheco and husband Luis of Lubbock, Brandon Dillard of Plano, TX, Justin Dillard and wife Denisse of Royse City, TX, Krisann Watkins and husband Matt of Amarillo, TX, Amy Rhodes and Stephen Rhodes of Amarillo, TX and Bailey O’Hara of Lubbock. He also has eight great grandchildren. As our family continues to expand, several more young people are calling George “Pawpaw”. Each one has been a treasured part of his life.
He was a quiet man who used his talents to serve God by serving others. In his position as a vocational instructor, he was privileged to impact the lives of hundreds of high school students over a span of 30 years. George taught auto mechanics and auto body repair in several public schools. First in Alvin, TX, then Estacado High in Lubbock, and last at Levelland High School in Levelland, TX. His formal teaching career ended in 2000, but he continued to teach family, friends and neighbors as long as he was physically able. He was generous with his time, tools and knowledge all of his days.
George was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Elijah, Walter, Paul, Elbert, Wayne, Udon and Wanda. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Cynthia Simonton. He will live forever in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Monterey Church of Christ Mission Fund or other favorite charity.
