Gerald (Jerry) Wayland Bush was born in Lubbock, Texas on September 14, 1946 to Paul Vernon and Eula Mae (Brady) Bush. Jerry was a devoted and loyal husband, father, brother and son loved and respected by all who knew him.
At an early age, Jerry began working at Lubbock Electric Company. He took pride in continuing the vision that his father had when he established the business in 1944, and had more than 50 years of service with the company. Jerry viewed the employees as family and took their joys and heartaches on as his own. He also believed that the Lubbock area could be enriched through Lubbock Electric, and although few knew the extent of his contributions to the community, he took this role very seriously. He took particular pride in the return of his daughter, Leslie Doggett, to the family business and was honored to have three generations of family working side-by-side.
Jerry attended Monterey High School and went on to Texas Tech University where he studied electrical engineering. He was a lifelong student and never gave up his quest for learning. He was incredibly sharp and naturally gifted with mechanical and scientific skills. These skills were continually put to use throughout his life finding creative and innovative solutions to problems.
He married Barbara Rogers on June 5, 1976, and they would enjoy a long and fulfilling life together. They shared many common interests, including the love for their two daughters. Jerry took great pleasure in caring for his loved ones; content in all things, he required little of others, but gave fully of himself. He was happiest in seeing the success of his friends and family.
Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Mae Bush. He is survived by his father, Paul Bush; his wife, Barbara, and their children, Leslie and Rick Doggett and Katie Bush; his sisters, Paula Switzer and Patsy Moffett (Steve); brother-in-law, Jerry Rogers; sisters-in-law, Cheryl J. Rogers, M.D. and Connie Burns (Morris). Many other loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and loyal friends near and far survive Jerry. We will all miss his support, integrity and steadfast love.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Texas Boys Ranch or The Sherick Memorial Home.
