Glenda J. Byers

Glenda (Sis) Byers, 79 of Lubbock passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on December 18, 2019. She was born in Goree, Texas on June 28, 1940 to the late JF and Lanna Mae Lowrance. She married Samuel M. Byers, the love of her life on August 5, 1961 and they enjoyed 53 years together, upon his death.

Glenda was a devoted wife, a family oriented woman who loved spending time with and caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the type of person who would go without just to make sure that others had what they needed.

She and Sam enjoyed many traveling adventures to Alaska, Mediterranean and Caribbean Cruises and many more adventures in their motor home with family and friends. She enjoyed her time at Lubbock Radiology as office manager for several years. Later in life she volunteered for several years at Women's and Children's Covenant Hospital. She will always be loved and cherished by family and friends.

Glenda is survived by her children: Stephanie (Lance) Powitzky of Austin, John Byers of Lewisville, and Paula (Roger) Dirickson of Ponchatoula, LA; eight grandchildren: Chris Powitzky, Chas (Taryn) Powitzky, Courtney (Ryan) Stogner, Gavin Byers, Kaycee Byers, Jennie (Chris) Carboni, Toni (Nathan) Tucker and Jarrett Dirickson; eight great-grandchildren: Ava Powitzky, Liam Powitzky, Lennox Powitzky, Henley Powitzky, Truett Powitzky, Cooper Carboni, Ellie Carboni and Samuel Byers.

She is preceded in death by her husband Samuel M. Byers, her brother John Lowrance and her sister Frieda Moore.

Visitation will be Monday, December 23, 2019 from 5-7pm at Resthaven Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life services will be held at St. Luke's Methodist Church (45th and Memphis Campus), Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at 11am.

Memorials may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Lubbock, Texas or the charity of your choice.
