Gloria Ruth Fite

Ruthie was born in Meeks, TX on December 5, 1927 to Vince & Sadie Schiller.

Ruthie met her future husband, Marion Francis Fite Jr, in middle school at Anton, TX. After high school, they started dating, and Ruthie moved to Lubbock, TX to work in a floral shop while Marion joined the Navy, and served in the South Pacific in WWII.

When he returned home, they were married on June 7, 1946, in Lubbock, TX, and June 7th 2021 they would have celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. After marrying, Marion started farming, and later, Terry, their first son was born in Littlefield, TX in 1948. They later moved to Hereford, TX, where their second son, Bruce, was born in 1953. Shortly after Bruce was born, they moved to Friona, TX where Marion farmed and owned a fertilizer business. Ruthie owned and operated a floral shop and a ladies ready to wear store for many years. They resided in Friona until they retired in 1978 and moved to Lubbock, TX in 1983.

Ruthie and Marion enjoyed traveling for 22 years, and made many lifelong friends. Ruthie also loved her family (children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great, grandchildren), and she was adored by them all. She was very skilled in knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, cross stitch, and painting. Ruthie also was an exceptional cook, and loved cooking for her family and friends. Ruthie and Marion were faithful members of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church until they moved to Amarillo, TX in 2017.

Ruthie was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Lorena Wood. She is survived by her husband, Marion, two sons; Terry Duane Fite and wife, Terri, of Lubbock, TX, Bruce Allen Fite and wife, Deborah, of Amarillo, TX; five grandchildren (Shawn, Jeremy, Josh, Christy, Dustin); ten great grandchildren (Ashley, Zane, Zoey, Asher, Skyler, Sawyer, Gunnar, Ticia, Tayla, Tasha), and one great, great granddaughter (Serenity).

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9th, 2021, in the Chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock, TX, located at 5740 W. 19th Street.
