

Upon graduating from Garland High School, Jeannie attended Baylor University, majoring in English with a minor in Latin and piano. There she met ROTC Cadet James (Jim) Hare. They worked together to create the ROTC newspaper.
Friendship gradually turned to dating and both decided that they enjoyed each other's company more than anyone else. They became engaged and married on Dec. 28, 1963 while they were both 20 years of age. They lived with Jim's mother and brother while Jim's father was in Vietnam.
They completed their education at Baylor and moved to Wichita Falls, where Jim was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base. Jeannie began her teaching career at Rider High School, and taught in the Richardson, Garland, Midland, and Plainview Independent School Districts, as well as the International School of Curitiba in Parana, Brazil. She taught English, Latin, and Spanish for over 30 years.
Jeannie also worked in school administrative duties, systematizing the files of the students of the Baptist Women's College in Rio De Janeiro. She served as a Student Financial Aid Advisor for Baylor University, Midwestern University of Wichita Falls and the Lubbock campus of Wayland Baptist University. Gifted in music and languages, Jeannie accompanied Jim in his work through playing piano and singing as they conducted services in small churches and psychiatric hospitals in Texas and Brazil, and at the Lubbock Military Reserve Center for the 4005th Army Medical Unit.
Jeannie excelled as a wife and mother. She was a faithful church member. God blessed many people through her loving, compassionate spirit and devoted life. In her last year, stricken by dementia, arthritis,and diabetes, she prayed for the Lord to take her home. She entered Heaven on May 25, 2024 at Brookdale-Monterey Memory Care Senior Living Facility, surrounded by her family. Jim sang to her, "Jesus is softly and tenderly calling - Come Home! Come Home!," kissed her forehead and told her "Go Home, Jeannie" as she breathed her last breath.
She is survived by 3 sisters, Linda May of Rockwall, Karen Fuller and husband Phillip Fuller of Fort Worth, Annette Chinske of Garland and their families. She is also survived by her loving husband of 60 years, James Oren Hare of Lubbock, son Shannon James Hare and wife Kelly Dufner Hare of San Antonio, and daughter Christina Jolene Nehrling and husband Matthew Nehrling of Longview, 6 grandchildren, Kayla Hare, Lauren Hare, Shanna Hare, Sarah Hare, James Christopher Hare and Brittany Hare, 2 great grandsons, Kaiden Hare and Nazareth Thomas, prayerfully expecting the arrival of great granddaughter Addison Luecke and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is buried at Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock ,Texas.
A celebration of life service for Gloria will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Second Baptist Church, 6109 Chicago Ave, Lubbock, Texas 79424.
