

Gordon Howard Cargill, 87, of Searcy, Ark., passed away June 27, 2014. He was born in Nubia, Texas, March 19, 1927. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home Tuesday, July 8. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 9 at 2 p.m. in the McDonald Moody Auditorium at Lubbock Christian University. He was a charter member of the Northside Church of Christ where he served as an elder for many years. He worked at LCU for 17 years. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family and serving others. He served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by one son, Gordon Steven Cargill; two daughters, Elizabeth Kay Cargill and Cheryl Elaine Cargill; parents, Howard Cargill and Allie Lewis Cargill; two brothers, Franklin Cargill and Burl Cargill; and one sister, Emma Hook. Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 64 years, Bettie Jo Caudle Cargill; one son, Charles Cargill of Lubbock; four daughters, Carla Chance (Michael) of Searcy, Ark., Cathy Privitt of Searcy, Ark., Beth Exum (Chris) of Lubbock, Christie Proctor (Gary) of West Plaines, Mo.; one sister, Louise Hallford, Lubbock; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Reuben Chance, Jared Chance, Andrew Chance, Chad Privitt, John Cargill and Logan Light. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Gordon and Bettie Cargill Bible Scholarship Fund, 5601 W. 19th St. Lubbock, TX 79407.
