Gordon Dale Cooper

Gordon was born September 27, 1937, in Sundown, Texas, to William Lonzo Cooper and Ollie Leota Davenport Cooper. He grew up in West Texas and was a member of Monterey High School’s first graduating class in 1956. He later attended Texas Tech, where he studied engineering.

At 20 years old, Gordon met the love of his life, Barbara Ann Dyson. They married on January 24, 1959, and shared more than 50 years of marriage before Barbara’s passing in October 2009. Together, they built a life centered around family and were blessed with two children, Kerry Dane Cooper and Kimberly Allyn Hix.

Gordon was a proud grandfather to Kandace Nicole Cooper, Kameron Ryan Hix, and Kelsey Ann Kreger, and a proud great-grandfather to Kason Ryan Kreger, Tori Ann Kreger, Harper Alejandro, Cooper Alejandro and Hudson Ryan Hix

Gordon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Cooper; his parents, William Lonzo Cooper and Ollie Leota Davenport Cooper; and his siblings, Gernie Cooper, Norma Walker, Garvin Cooper, Kent Cooper, Ollie Whitner, and Dan Cooper.

In his younger years, Gordon enjoyed staying active and had a love for archery, bowling, and slow-pitch softball. As the years went on, he continued to take great pride in keeping a beautiful yard and could often be found enjoying one of his greatest pastimes—football. Gordon was a die-hard football fan and faithfully cheered on his Texas Tech Red Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, and Kansas City Chiefs. Whether watching a game, talking football, or rooting for one of his teams, it was something he truly loved.

More than anything, those who knew Gordon will remember his cut-up personality, quick wit, and ability to make people laugh.

Nearly 89 years created more memories than could ever fit on a page. Gordon leaves behind a family who loved him dearly and will continue to carry his stories, laughter, and memory with them for generations.

He was deeply loved, will be greatly missed, and his family will forever be grateful for the many years they were blessed to have him.

Services honoring Gordon’s life will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock, Texas.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.

Family and friends are invited to gather together to remember Gordon, celebrate his life, and honor the many memories he leaves behind.
