Born and raised in Lubbock, Greta spent her life surrounded by the people and places she loved most. She married and raised two daughters there, creating a home filled with love, learning, and faith.
Greta began her career as a teacher’s aide at St. John Neumann Elementary School, where her daughters attended. She had a gift for connecting with children — patient, kind, and always ready with encouragement and a smile. Later, she followed her heart to open Brother John’s Book Store, where she found deep joy in helping others discover and grow in their faith. She finished her working years at the Texas Tech University Library, where she delighted in helping students with their studies and sharing her love of books and learning.
Outside of work, Greta was an avid gardener, she filled her home and the courtyard at Mackenzie Court with greenery and blossoms. Her plants were more than a hobby — they were her way of bringing beauty and life to those around her. Friends, neighbors, and caregivers alike found comfort in her garden’s color and calm.
Greta is survived by her two daughters, Jana Smith and Elaine Ramzinski, her beloved grandson Scott Fickling, and her brother, James Curry. Her warmth, faith, and gentle spirit will continue in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
