June 9, 1934 – August 21, 2025
Ed Stanford, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, went to be with the Lord on August 21, 2025. He was 91 and surrounded by family and loved ones during his final days in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be held at the Wesley Chapel at LakeRidge Methodist Church at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, August 26, in Lubbock, Texas.
On June 9, 1934, Ed was born on the family farm near McLoud, Oklahoma, to Leland and Jewel Stanford, the second of five brothers. He attended grade school at Hazel-Dell and then graduated from Dale High School. He went to Oklahoma State University, where he was a member of Farmhouse fraternity and received his bachelor’s degree in education and master’s degree in entomology.
In 1958, he moved to Planview, where he and his brothers, Jim and Bob, and close friend Ed Vadder founded an entomology service that became Sun-Vue Fertilizer Corporation.
On February 9, 1963, Ed married Sue Stanford, and they were married for 62 years. They had two daughters, De Joachim and Sonya Crow, whom he loved dearly. One of Ed’s greatest joys was becoming Papa to two granddaughters, Sarah and Suzanne Crow, whom he called his “angels.”
Ed and Sue were longtime members of the First United Methodist Church in Plainview before moving to Lubbock, Texas, and becoming members of LakeRidge Methodist Church. His faith was inspiring, and we know he is smiling down on us from heaven.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Jewel Stanford, and two of his brothers, Bob and Jim Stanford. He is survived by his wife Sue Stanford of Lubbock, Texas; daughter De, her husband Carl Joachim, and their dog Toby of Austin, Texas; daughter Sonya and her husband Dr. Steve Crow of Lubbock, Texas; granddaughter Dr. Sarah Crow of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter Suzanne Crow and her dog Shimmer of New York, New York; brother Tom and his wife Tina Stanford of Kingwood, Texas; brother Curtis and his wife Trisha Stanford of Shawnee, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank his amazing caretaker, Sheila Perez, and other staff at Home Instead, as well as the entire team at Primrose Retirement Community of Lubbock. They would also like to thank Dr. Kerry Hendershot at Covenant Medical Group and Dr. David McCartney and Kim Creel at Texas Tech Ophthalmology Eye Clinic.
Since Ed lost his vision several years ago and had multiple cornea transplants, the family has designated the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Eye Excellence Fund for memorial contributions.
