

Harry Bruce Tipton, 77, passed away March, 1, 2011.Services will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm, Friday, March 4, 2011 at Resthaven Funeral Home. Harry was born December 18, 1933 in Marshall, N.C., the youngest son of Walter and Dahlia Tipton. He graduated in 1952 and immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force, specializing in Meteorology. While stationed in the U.K., he met and married Shirley Janet Cooper in 1958. Their son Gary was born in 1960 and their daughter Kristy in 1965. Harry was a Vietnam Veteran and earned a Bronze Star when he was instrumental in the complete evacuation of a theatre bombing. After moving to Shallowater in 1972 Harry retired from the Air Force and then spent the next 20 years with Lubbock County; where he assisted with the creation of the Farm Implements Museum in Shallowater. He also served in the Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years. Harry and his wife Shirley were also Girl Scout leaders. Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his son: Gary Tipton, daughter, Kristy Joy Cox and husband, Tom, grandson, Heath, and granddaughter, Heather.
