It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Hazel Lavelle Hatcher. She passed peacefully on August 27, 2025 at a Lubbock hospital, surrounded by her family, after a 3 month stay following a recent illness. She was 57 years old. Leaning on her faith, she showed incredible strength and fought with everything in her to be here for her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Hazel was born on May 8, 1968, in San Angelo, Texas, to Howard and Joy Worley and grew up with a deep love for family, faith, and serving others. On May 15, 1987, in Cisco, Texas, she married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Cliff Hatcher, beginning a beautiful marriage that would last 38 years. Cliff was the love of her life, and she lovingly devoted herself to him—making sure he was cared for, well fed, and always looking his best. Their life together was marked by love, laughter, and faith.
Above all else, Hazel cherished her role as a mother to her three children and Gigi to her eight treasured grandchildren. Her greatest joy in life was pouring love into her family, whether through her warm presence, her home-cooked meals, or her endless encouragement.
A devoted homemaker, she was an incredible baker and cook, often showing love through meals that gathered family and friends around her table. She had a servant’s heart, quietly blessing countless lives with handwritten notes, acts of kindness, and service behind the scenes. She deeply loved her church family, enjoyed crafting, and always made sure her kids had the most creative and thoughtful school projects. She also had a love for fashion—always delighted by a new outfit and the little thrill of a package arriving at the door. She never met a pair of cute shoes she didn’t like. Simple joys like sipping on a Dr. Pepper or sweet tea were a daily part of her life.
Those who knew Hazel will remember her as the sweetest and most loving lady—someone who made everyone feel at home. She carried a gentle, quiet spirit that spoke volumes without words, and her goofy, playful side brought joy and laughter to those closest to her.
She is survived by her devoted husband Cliff Hatcher of Shallowater, Texas; daughter Sarah Thomas and husband Blake of Shallowater, Texas; daughter Brooke Fischer and husband Matt of Liberty Hill, Texas; son Caleb Hatcher of Lubbock, Texas; brother Trace Worley and wife Melody of Hobbs, New Mexico; brother Donnie Worley and wife Linda of Early, Texas; brother Joey Worley and wife Renea of Fairfield, Texas; brother Roy Worley and wife Donna of Albuquerque, New Mexico; father-in-law Jim Hatcher of Lubbock, Texas; and her beloved grandchildren Ayden, Emery, Natalie, Asher, Jude, Kase, Haze, and Jovi. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Joy Worley, and her mother-in-law, Susie Hatcher.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness that will live on through her family and all who were blessed to know her.
A service to honor her life will be held at 12th Street Church of Christ in Shallowater, Texas on Tuesday, September 2nd at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Texas Girls & Boys Ranch of Lubbock.
