

Helena J. Lacy passed away on January 18, 2015 in Solomons, MD at the age of 99. She was born in New York City on August 12, 1915 to Edward and Elvira Johnson. She was the second of two daughters. Helena came to Texas at the age of three on the Orphan Train from New York. Her foster parent was Mrs. Frank J. Phillips of Greenville, TX. In 1934, Helena graduated from The Hockaday School for Girls in Dallas, TX. She attended The George Peabody College in Nashville, TN. where she was a member of the English Honorary Society and went on to graduate from East Texas Teachers College in Commerce, TX. On December 21, 1940 she married Aubrey Floyd Lacy of Vernon, TX. Together they had four children: Edward Aubrey, Robert Francis, Michael Jerdaard and Phyllis Sue. Helena resided in Lubbock, TX for over 40 years before moving to Ohio and Maryland but her heart always belonged to Texas.
Helena was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey, sons Edward and Robert and grandson Matthew Seth Lacy.
She is survived by Michael and Vicki Lacy of Moore, OK., Phyllis and Robert Caldwell of Hollywood, MD., daughters-in-law, Michele Lacy of Westerville, OH and Gaile Lacy of Vancouver, BC. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Sean Lacy of Dallas, TX, Kara (Blair) Scobbie of Vancouver, B.C., Jay (Jennifer) Lacy of Oklahoma City, OK., Angela (Giulio) DeCotiis of Vancouver, B.C., Kathlene (James) Fox-Davies of London, United Kingdom, Megan (David) Connelly of Moore, OK., Hillary (Nate) Kaufmann of Columbia, MO., and Jennifer (Christopher) Bodden of Madison, WI. Her pride and joy were her 14 precious great-grandchildren.
