Hubert Lee Weaver, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan 13, 2023. Hubert was born on July 11, 1930 in Denison, Texas to Vada Martin Weaver and Mary Josephine (Blakemore) Weaver. He graduated from Denison High School in 1948. He helped his father, Vada, in the family grocery/butcher shop as well as working as a parts manager in a local garage.
In July 1950, Hubert joined the US Air Force where he served at 24 different bases in 9 countries during his 20 year career. He retired from the Air Force in August 1970, moved back to Lubbock and over the years, he was the Service Dept Manager for Montgomery Wards, owned Family Cleaners and in 1980, began working for Universal Fasteners until retirement in 1995.
Hubert is survived by his wife of 19 years, Ilene Weaver; his two daughters – Melissa Taylor and husband Dan of San Antonio, Cynthia Weaver and husband Michael Huffman of Lubbock; his grandchildren – Amanda McNamara and husband Jon of Boerne and Brandon Taylor of San Antonio. Hubert is also survived by his stepchildren – Rebekah James of Amarillo, Doug James and wife Michelle of Cedar Park and Chris James and wife Stacy as well as 8 step-grandchildren.
Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, 6 siblings – Woodrow, Evan, Fern, Faye, Mildred and Frederick and their spouses as well as his wife of 40 years, Jo Ann Pruett Weaver.
Hubert was known for having a kind and generous spirit, his great sense of humor and always having a joke to tell. He always found time to play a round of golf and met many friends on the course. Hubert also loved the Dallas Cowboys, John Wayne/western movies, Country/Bluegrass/Gospel music, dancing and travelling with his family.
He was loved by all who knew him. Hubert will always be remembered as a loving Husband, Father, Brother and Grandfather.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 5 – 7pm. Funeral services for Hubert will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel on January 19, 2023 at 1 pm. Interment will to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park .
