Marian Hulene Mansell, known by those that loved her as Nena, was born in Enid Oklahoma on April 1, 1931 to Fitzhugh Lee and Vinnie Mabelle Adair. Hulene shed her mortal coil on June 30, 2019, in her home in Lubbock surrounded by those that loved her at the age of 88. She is now reunited with her loved ones and dancing to all her favorite songs.
Hulene was the last of her family, and will be dearly missed. Preceded in death by her sister ‘Little Chig’, parents, Fitzhugh Lee & Vinnie Mabelle Adair, aka, Nana & Paw-Paw, her brother, Wayne Adair, her sister, Jane Reed, her husband, Houston Mansell and grandson Paul Kersey.
Hulene attended Wayland Baptist College and was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi. She spent a portion of her adulthood as a housewife and once her daughters were older, she was a long time cotton shipper with PCCA in Lubbock. She served as a member of Highland Baptist Church for over 50 years, was well known and loved in the congregation and will be missed.
She is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Mansell Guthrie & husband Steve Guthrie of El Paso, Niki Hughes of Lubbock and Nisa Bridges of Midland. Nena is survived by her nine grandchildren Jeff Guthrie of Lubbock, Amy & Thurston Taylor of Cedar Park, Kim & Art Wallace of Corpus Christi, Awna Grimmett of Lubbock, Mark Moke of Bastrop, Kali & Phelan Brown of Midland, Kaci Coutee of Big Springs, and Kerrie & Vic McWilliams of Crane.
Now let’s get to her pride and joy and what made her the happiest. Hulene (Nena) loved her 17 GREAT grandchildren, these great-grandchildren include: Steven & Dylan Guthrie, Kylie & Rowan Taylor, Ashton & Brylea Carrasco, Addison Wallace, Kirstie & Leland McWilliams, Trystin & husband Trent Johnson, Tyler Fisher, Jordan Moke, Kamryn, Harli, Amari & Sanaya Brown, Maizlyn Coutee and Darian Bragg. In addition, Nena has two great-great grandchildren: Aspyn Johnson of Lubbock, and Novalie Fisher of Denver City.
Nena was one of quick wit, had little time for nonsense and was always full of sass. She was always in an amazing outfit, and even better pair of shoes and looked beautiful. Even late in life, she was always ready to go for an adventure, especially if it included shopping. Most importantly, we always knew we were loved. Comfort and wisdom were always to be found with Nena. We are not here to say goodbye to Nena, but see you later.
