Jack was born in Lubbock, Texas on October 26, 2001. He lived in Chicago for the last four years and was 24 years old at the time of his death. Jack grew up in West Texas, but always had his eyes on bigger places and was meant to live in a big city in the center of the action. He had made Chicago his home and found the place he was always meant to be in the last few years.
Jack loved to travel and saw a lot of the world in his 24 years. He lived in Texas and New England and Missouri and Illinois. He saw places all over the country and all over the world in his travels with family and friends, often meeting up with his mother on her travels for work.
Jack was smart, creative, adventurous, thoughtful and unapologetically himself.
Jack loved film and pop culture. He loved to cook, more for others than for himself. One of the things that brought Jack his greatest joy was to shop for unique ingredients and to have his friends and family try out his experiments and creations in the kitchen. He had the greenest thumb and couldn’t resist the chance to buy another plant, even when he had no idea where he would find room to put it in his home. If he ran out of room, he might clear space by giving a plant to a friend. He’d then replace it with another one.
Besides his family and his partner, Jack’s greatest love was reserved for his cats. His heart was full for animals as much as it was for people. His three cats, Alistair, Stella and Tallulah were the center of his daily life. Jack never met a cat he didn’t want to rescue and nurture and they were always better for Jack having found them. The same could be said for the people fortunate enough to know him well.
Jack was preceded in death by his grandfather Larry Weiss. He is survived by his partner of six years, Turner DeArmond, his parents, Rod and Wendy, his stepfather Michael, sisters Channing, Maggie and Sierra. His triplet niece and nephews, Jonah, Julia & Liam. He is also survived by his grandmothers Marsha Weiss and Diana Valdez.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on October 17th at Resthaven funeral home in Lubbock. In lieu of flowers, the family requests mourners make a donation in Jack’s memory to a local animal shelter of their choice.
