JACKIE BEA CALDWELL (née Nelson), 79, died on Friday, June 26, at home in Lubbock. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, July 8, at Forrest Heights United Methodist Church with a reception following.
Born November 26, 1946, to Jack and Bea Nelson, Jackie attended Lubbock High and earned a BA and MA from Texas Tech. She started the first ever singles Sunday School class in Lubbock at First Christian Church. Jackie dedicated her career to serving others as a social worker. She worked for the Texas Department of Human Services for over 30 years and went on to teach parenting classes for many Lubbock families. She was an avid community volunteer and was instrumental in the founding of Hospice of Lubbock. For decades she was a devoted member and leader at Forrest Heights United Methodist Church, where she loved teaching children's time.
Endlessly loving, Jackie had a gift for making everyone around her feel cared for — whether they had asked for it or not. She was the kind of person who made you feel completely loved, and she genuinely cared about everyone she ever met. She enjoyed quilting, scrapbooking, reading, Santas, and Hallmark movies. On her 75th birthday, despite years of serious back pain, she went skydiving.
Above all, Jackie loved her family fiercely.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Bill Caldwell; her children, Shaun Pavlik, Tracee Brown, and David Caldwell (Brigid); her grandchildren, Tatum, Ben, Graham, and Angus; her sisters, Eva Lee Cates (Jackie) and Stacey Young (Tommy).
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Lubbock or Forrest Heights United Methodist Church.
