Jim was born January 24, 1923 in Hill County, TX to Willard H. (Tip) Brannon and June Lee (Jamerson) Brannon, and was one of seven children. He grew up in the Hillsboro area on the family farm. He met Juanita Wallace in Waco when he was a teenager and they were married on September 22, 1942. Their two sons, Jimmy and Robert, were born in Waco. They moved to Lubbock in 1947 where there daughter, Peggy, was born.
Jim was a World War II Veteran, having served his country as an Army Staff Sgt. in Italy and North Africa. He was employed by Southwestern Public Service Co. for over forty years and was a faithful employee and friend to his co-workers. Jim was a Baptist Deacon at Arnett Benson Baptist Church and Broadview Baptist Church. He also taught Sunday school for over 30 years and worked in the nursery at both churches. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose-Lodge 2050.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Juanita, his son, Robert Charles, his brothers, Robert C. Brannon and Lester L. Brannon and sister, Flaura L. Dickinson.
He is survived by one son, Jimmy L. Brannon and wife, Bettie, of Truth or Consequences, NM; one daughter, Peggy Brannon McGuire and husband, James, of Lubbock. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Todd Brannon and wife, Erin, of Tulsa, OK, Brannon McGuire and wife, Deborah, of Houston and Heather McGuire of Houston; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Teryn & Jayden Brannon of Tulsa, OK, and Katie McGuire of Houston and has a McGuire great-grandson on the way. He is also survived by three sisters, Desma DeHart of Hillsboro, Fran Norman of Tulsa, OK. and Faye Davis and husband, Bill of Tulsa, OK., as well as a host of nieces and nephews and other family members and friends.
The Brannon family would like to thank all the staff and residents at Grand Court Retirement for their care and friendship over the last several years. He truly loved all of you and was happy to be a part of the Grand Court family.
