James Leo Dunn

James Leo Dunn, affectionately known by family and friends as Jim, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, at the age of 74. Jim was born on March 27, 1952, in Lamesa, Texas, to Vera and James Dunn.

Jim was one of a kind. He was loving, adventurous, sarcastic, ornery, and wild in all the ways that made him unforgettable. He had a fearless spirit and a way of living life that was entirely his own. Jim wasn't someone who sat on the sidelines and watched life happen—he wanted to experience it. He was always willing to take a chance, try something new, and see where the road would take him.

That adventurous spirit was one of the things that made Jim so special. He did things without fear and had a willingness to step outside of his comfort zone that many people admired. Skydiving was just one example of his fearless nature. While most people might think twice about jumping out of an airplane, Jim was the kind of man who would say, “Why not?” He embraced the excitement of life and wasn't afraid of a little danger, a little trouble, or a whole lot of fun.

Jim's sarcastic sense of humor and ornery personality were just as much a part of him as his adventurous spirit. He had a way of keeping people on their toes and could probably get a laugh, an eye roll, or both with just a few words. His family will remember his stories, his jokes, his stubborn streak, and all the little things he did that made him uniquely Jim.

But underneath the sarcasm and wild side was a loving man with a deep love for his family. Jim's greatest legacy is the family he leaves behind and the memories he created with them.

Jim was a proud father to his two children, Cody Dunn and Cheyenne Dunn.

His son, Cody, married Jessica Dunn, and together they have two children, Trevor Dunn and Chloe Dunn.

His daughter, Cheyenne, has two children Mia Klein and Thomas Weston Winters and one grandchild Sterling Klein.

Jim treasured his grandchildren and the special place they held in his life.

Jim’s family continued to grow when Mia married Weston Klein. Together, Mia and Weston welcomed Sterling Klein. Jim's great-grandchild, whom Jim sadly did not get the opportunity to meet.

His family was his connection to the future, and through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, a part of Jim will continue on. His stories will be told, his adventures will be remembered, and his sense of humor will be carried forward by the people who knew him best.

Jim will be remembered not simply by the date he was born or the date he passed away, but by the life he lived in between. He was a man who wasn't afraid to be himself. He lived boldly, loved deeply, laughed often, and left behind memories that will not easily fade.

There will be stories about Jim for years to come—from building a business, the adventures, the sarcasm, the ornery moments, the unexpected things he did, and the times he made everyone shake their heads and laugh. Those stories are part of his legacy. They are reminders that Jim was here, that he lived life fully, and that he made an impression on the people around him.

Though Jim is no longer here to take on his next adventure, his fearless spirit will remain in the hearts of those who loved him. His family can carry him with them through the memories they share, the stories they tell, and the laughter that comes whenever someone says, “That sounds like something Jim would do.”
