James Daniel Weems, lovingly known as Jim, passed from this life on August 1, 2025, into the arms of god. He was a devoted son, brother, friend, father, and grandfather whose warmth, intellect, and integrity touched everyone who knew him.
Services will take place, Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the Tech Mausoleum located at Resthaven Memorial Park. Friends and family are welcome to come early before services to visit with family.
Jim was born on November 13, 1948, to J.D. and Betty Weems. He graduated from Levelland High School in 1966 and went on to attend Texas Tech University for his undergraduate studies. Between 1970 and 1972, Jim honorably served in the United States Army as a clerk stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. Following his military service, he returned to Texas Tech and enrolled in the School of Law, where he earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1974. Jim was a proud Texas Tech Alumni.
From March 2006 until his passing, Jim served as president of the Argosy Group. His leadership, Professionalism, and dedication to his work earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
Jim had a deep love of travel and was delighted to share that passion with others. Whether taking his son or granddaughter on special trips, traveling with friends, or making memories with his dear friend Kay, Jim embraced once-in-a-lifetime experiences. He went on an African safari, took a (reluctant) ride on a subway, and even met “Mr. Rock,” better known as Kid Rock-with his brother. He was always up for an adventure, especially if it meant good company and a good story.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Betty Weems, in 2009; his brother, Randy Weems, in 2011; his father, J.D. Weems, in 2012; and his nephew, Eric Weems Humphreys, in 2000.
He is survived by his sister, Dani Johnson, and her husband, Jerry; his brother, Ricky Weems; his son, Jason Ricks, and wife Nicole; his grandchildren, Kaitlynn Gleichman and husband Stuart, Kelton Ricks, Kiegan Timothy (Timmy) Ricks, and several nieces and nephews. He is also lovingly remembered by close friends, Ben and Kim Ansolabehere, and his special friend, Kay Wilsher.
Jim’s legacy lives on in the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed.
