He was born on November 29, 1941, in Crow Mountain, Arkansas, to Loyal Allen Judkins and Vida May Harkey, and was raised with the values of hard work, faith, and kindness that would guide him throughout his life.
Jerry was a man of deep character—caring, hardworking, and generous to everyone he met. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand, offer wise counsel, or share a story that would bring a smile. He had a lifelong love for animals, a passion for racing, and was a devoted supporter of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer them on.
His work ethic was evident from an early age. Jerry began his career as a crop duster, a demanding and skilled profession that required both courage and precision. He later built upon that determination by establishing and operating one of the longest-running independent trucking companies in Lubbock. Through his work, he earned not only a living but also the respect and trust of those who knew him professionally and personally.
Faith was a cornerstone of Jerry’s life. For 30 years, he faithfully served as a deacon in his church, demonstrating quiet leadership, humility, and a steadfast commitment to his community. His faith was not only something he professed, but something he lived out daily through his actions and the way he treated others.
Though Jerry did not have children of his own, he was a father figure to many. He invested his time, guidance, and love into the lives of others, offering encouragement, support, and a steady presence that made a lasting impact. His legacy lives on in the countless people he mentored and cared for as if they were his own.
Jerry shared 57 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Mary Lou Judkins, whose memory he cherished deeply after her passing. Their life together was marked by devotion, partnership, and enduring love.
He is survived by his brother, Jackie Judkins, and his sister, Ruby Gililland, along with many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Judkins; his parents, Loyal Allen Judkins and Vida May Harkey; and his sisters, Glenda Holmes and Mary Jane Davis.
