JR was the fifth of nine children, born on October 10, 1942 at the Rogers Hospital in Gorman Texas to William Thomas Rasco and Velma Geneva Brashear.
At the age of 14, he found his true passion in life. He started working in the automotive industry at DC Wrecking in Denver City for his brother Red. A few years later he married Rebecca Ann Parker and they welcomed their son Terry. JR continued to work at DC Wrecking and his passion grew as he started building drag vehicles. He built a drag truck and was testing its speed when he veered off the highway and flipped the truck. This broke JR’s back and several other bones, but it did not stop him from working at the wrecking yard.
In the mid 1960s JR moved his family to Lubbock to continue working at a much larger DC Wrecking and help establish the business. Several years later, Donna was born. JR became a true family man. He loved racing sizzler race cars at his brother Bob’s, playing volleyball in the yard at New Deal with family and friends, and building dune buggies with his brother Larry, which later turned into trips to the sand hills with 27 dune buggies. He spent around 25 years at DC but always had a desire to purchase his own yard.
In 1984 JR purchased Pendley Auto Parts and later changed the name to B & R Auto Parts. He supported all types of automotive clubs and helped organize the first sand buggy club in Lubbock. JR married Nancy Wright March 31, 2001. Together they spent many years making memories, many of which were going to his lake house at White River. His passion at B&R was to decorate with thousands of Christmas lights each year and to serve a massive lunch to all of his customers. He retained ownership of B&R until August 2024. JR spent 65 years in the automotive salvage industry serving thousands of customers which he would call friends.
JR had several other passions in life, one of which was fishing, especially with his grandkids. He loved being outdoors and working in his garden. He was a member of the woodworkers club in Lubbock and made over 1000 crosses in his many years of woodworking. He would never put a price on the crosses he made because that was his gift to you. JR had a servant’s heart and was a member at Bethany Baptist Church. JR helped Nancy with Christmas for kids ministry and they donated to more than 350 kids every year.
JR found immense pleasure in just being around his family and especially his grandkids, a testament to his unwavering love for his family. JR‘s legacy is one of resilience and kindness. He is predeceased by his loving parents, brothers: Red, James and Robert, and sisters: Mildred, Geneva and Shirley. JR is survived by his brother Larry Rasco, and sister Jerri Faye Noseff. JR also leaves behind a treasured family including his beloved wife, Nancy Rasco, his son, Terry Rasco (Michelle), daughter, Donna Castle (Tony), stepdaughter, Jennifer Sherman (Jeremiah), grandchildren, Christopher Harrington (Amanda), Nikki Smith (Cody), Jennifer Greer (Tate), Tiffany York (Bryan), Makinzy Rasco, Peyton Sherman, Graycie Sherman, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren. He loved his family big time and they will carry his memory in their hearts forever and ever! Amen&Amen
