Joan Hegdal

Joan Margaret Hegdal passed away on August 2, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center, Lubbock, TX. Joan was born to Grace Eleanor and John Harold Bird on September 28, 1938 in Berkhamsted Herts, England. Joan grew up in Berkhamsted immigrating to the USA in 1958 and becoming a US citizen in 1963.

Joan is survived by her sister Brenda Fowler of Sussex, England; three step-children, Janice Spikes and husband Sam, Steve Hegdal and wife Pat, and Martin Hegdal, all of Lubbock; three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. She had a very special connection with all her nieces and nephews.

Joan was a member of Christ the King Cathedral and participated regularly in the programs they offered. She loved animals and her constant companion was her little dog Tess. Joan had a long and very happy marriage to her husband Jim to whom she was devoted. He preceded her in death in February 2007. Her kindness and inner beauty was recognized by all who met her. She will be greatly missed by us all.

Visitation will be Wednesday August 6, 2014 at Resthaven funeral Home from 5 to 7 pm with a rosary at 7 pm. A mass will be held at Christ the King Cathedral at 10 am Thursday August 7 followed by burial at Resthaven Memorial Park. Joan was very supportive of the ASPCA.
