JoAnn (Hubbard) Oldfield, 84, passed from this life into her eternal home on November 29th in Lubbock, TX. She was born December 10, 1935 in Bailey County to John Hubbard and Sylvia (Richardson) Hubbard. JoAnn grew up in Bula, Texas and was a proud member of the Bulldog basketball team.
She graduated from West Texas State College in 1958. She moved to Grants, New Mexico in August of 1959 to begin her teaching career. On April 16, 1960, JoAnn married Barney Oldfield. They made their home in Grants, New Mexico until 2003 when they moved to Lubbock. She taught English at Franklin Junior High and World of Work at Grants High School. She was also a Guidance Counselor and Special Education Counselor at the high school. JoAnn retired from teaching in 1990 after 31 years.
JoAnn was a long time member of the Grants Church of Christ. She taught Bible class, was a Bible Bowl Coach and an Elder’s wife. Upon moving to Lubbock she placed membership at Monterey Church of Christ where she taught ladies Bible Class, worked with World Bible School and enjoyed her time with the Active Retirees.
JoAnn was an avid sports fan. She kept basketball stats for the Grants High School Pirates and supported the Lady Chap Basketball team, Lubbock Christian Baseball and Red Raider Football. She faithfully served as an armchair referee for Lubbock Cooper sports. She was very fortunate to see the Lady Chaps win the National Basketball Championship in 2016.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Left to remember her are her daughters Kim Oldfield, Jacque (Adam) Reinhart and Shannon (Ron) Davis. She was a loving Nana to Joshua (Evelynn) Reinhart, Elizabeth Reinhart, Juan Reinhart, Timothy (Jordyn) Davis and Sarah (Kary) Heath. She was Nana the Great to Navy Davis. She is also survived by her sister Wanda (Richard) Stanley; sister-in-laws Virginia (Bill) Brown and Patsy Fletcher; and cousin Eddie (Pat) Roberts, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the Palliative Care Unit at Covenant Medical Center for the loving care shown in her last days.
