
Joe was a graduate of Walla Walla University in Washington. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Joe was an entrepreneur engaged in farming and cotton and grain warehousing. He served on various Boards, including charter membership on the Board of Directors of Cotton, Inc., Vice Chairman and Founder of the Producers Committee of the National Cotton Council and founding Chairman of the Texas Cotton Growers Association.
Joe was a devoted husband and caring father and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife Lu Pate, sons Jay Pate and Bruce Pate, daughter Lisa Pate, stepdaughter Jeni Moore Etcheverry, stepsons Lance Etcheverry and Jim Warren, sisters Dephena Bresee and Oleta Pate, mother of his children Georgene Haverstock, eighteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by a special friend, Lance Willard.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, sons Mark Pate and Chase Etcheverry, daughter Kristin Pate and wives Sandy Pate and Paula Pate.
