

John graduated from Lubbock High School in 1961 and earned his bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University in 1965. He later received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Texas Tech University School of Law in 1982.
John began his career as a computer programmer with Time DC Freight Company before working in the Trust Department at American State Bank. After earning his law degree, he joined McWhorter, Cobb, and Johnson, where he practiced bankruptcy law. He concluded his professional career as Vice President of Compliance at Covenant Health Systems.
On December 22, 1965, John married Judith "Judi" Gamble of Wichita Falls, Texas. Together they built a life centered on family, shared interests, and lasting friendships.
John had a lifelong passion for photography and golf and was a long time member of the Lubbock Country Club. He and Judi were active members of the West Texas Chapter of the Porsche Club of America, enjoying many adventures together. John also treasured the time he spent on his ranch, where he created countless memories with his siblings, children, and grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Estine Blakey of Lubbock; his beloved wife, Judi Blakey of Lubbock; and his brother, James Blakey of Lubbock.
He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Blakey of Bastrop, Texas; his sons, Clint Blakey and his wife, Anita, of Lubbock, Texas, and David Blakey and his wife, Marnie, of Irvine, California; and his cherished grandchildren, Adrian, Everett, Dylan, and Mitchell.
John will be remembered for his integrity, generosity, and deep devotion to his family. A private celebration of John's life for family and close friends will be held at a later date.
