John Bowman, age 77, passed away Sunday August 26, 2012 in Lubbock. John was born June 7, 1935 in Carey, TX to Thomas and Lilly Bowman. John was a former mayor of Silverton and former member of the P.R.P.C. (Panhandle Regional Planning Commission). He was instrumental in assisting to reintroduce genetically pure Bison to the Caprock Canyon State Park in Quitaque, TX. He retired from GTE.
John is survived by his wife Donnie of Lubbock; 3 sons, Dan (Tammie) Bowman of Morton, TX, Tom Bowman of Dickens, TX and Scott (Vicki) Bowman of Weatherford, TX; sister Joyce Edwards; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Beverly Ann and granddaughter Holly.
Visitation will be prior to the funeral service at 9:30 am, Thursday, August 30, 2012 in Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel with burial to follow in Wheeler Cemetery, Wheeler, TX. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc.
