August 7,  2014 ~ A beautiful day in San Diego, California. John Gary Braun's ashes were committed to the sea in San Diego Bay, as promised. Twenty Family members were aboard the yacht,  reminiscing with farewell memories. ~ It was a good day.

John was a very special neighbor and fellow golfer. John was instramental in organizing the first neighborhood picnic and all the annual picnics while he lived in Stonebridge Ranch. He loved his friends and we joked back and forth frequently.  We miss him. Our deepest condolences to Carolyn and family.

Dear Sandi,
 
I am so regretful that I did not realize your father had returned to Lubbock.  I certainly would have called him for a game of golf.  He and I first met in 1974 during my first year at Texas Tech; we played out at Meadowbrook with paul Ellsworth (TTU orchestra conductor) and friends.  I can recall a fun evening at your home with John, Maryanne, George Carpenter, his wife, Leilani (my wife at the time), and me...having dinner and watching movies.
It was a terrible shock to me when I learned of your brother's death...
About 9 or 10 years agao I telephoned your mom.  I had seen her picture in the Lubbock Avalanche journal indicating she was involved with a huge "medical experiment" or such.  She gave me her phone number, but somehow I misplaced it.  Perhaps you could either give that or her email to me that I might find out how and what she has been doing....
Please know and understand how sorry I am for your loss.  Your dad was always fun to be with and a very kind fellow.

John,It is so sad to lose another great Braun man but Jim will be happy to see you ,Carolyn i know you will find peace in all the great years you shared with John as Jim and I did. He was a special brother and brother in law.

I feel very fortunate to have know John Braun.  The times we had together as neighbors and golf buddies will live on with me.  John was a bright spot in my life and has left a legacy of good cheer and optimism that I will work to keep alive.  We will all miss you John, and will think of you often as someone very special and a very positive force that we can cherish.

My memories of John will be with me for my lifetime. He was my counselor, confessor and wonderful friend. I will always see him as we played his favorite golf course "Bridges" at Gunter. Struggling to play with that horrible boot on his leg, he would not let the pain stop him from playing the game he loved. I am a better man because of John! He was the brother I never had.

We were so sorry to hear of John's illness and passing.  We have such fond memories of you and John while here with us in California.  Please know that eventhough we are far away, our thoughts and prayers are with you and though we will miss John, we take great joy in the fond memories we have--that great big smile, his friendship, and integrity in business.  We can just imagine him sitting down to the biggest and best "corn fed beef" steak dinner after the golf game of a lifetime up in heaven!  Blessings and God's strength and comfort to you, Carolyn!

I knew John when I had my architect and engineer's office in Lubbock.  We, and several other guys, would eat breakfast at Furr's Cafetera at 50th and Canton.  We had business dealings with John several times as well.  I always enjoyed working with John.  Ed Stephens, formerly Maeker and Stephens partner.

John, thank you for being my dad. I miss you very much. I love you

Carolyn, I was saddened to see John's obituary in the paper today.  When I think of John, I think of him taking you with him to Califonia and all the many travels you experienced together.  I believe he truly enriched your life.  I know the months since last November have been so hard for both of you, but now John rests in the arms of our Lord, at peace with no more suffering and struggle.  Remember the treasure trove of memories you created together and take comfort from them.  "The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace."  With love and sympathy.

Uncle John, we will miss you very much. You have left me with inspiration and great memories. Thank you. I pray you are in Jesus hands now with Jeff, Grandma and Grandpa and my Dad. Love you.
