

John was born on May 23, 1953, in Gibson City, Illinois, to John G. Garrett Sr. and Dorothy M. Nuss. He attended Monterey High School in Lubbock and proudly graduated with the Class of 1971.
Following high school, John built a career in drywall and construction. As the owner of Gary's Drywall, he took great pride in his work and in providing for his family through years of dedication to his trade.
John was blessed with four children, who remained the center of his life. He was also a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous, where he found purpose in helping others. He generously shared his story of hope, encouragement, and recovery, leaving a lasting impact on many lives.
John found joy in the outdoors and will always be remembered for his love of farming, hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his father, John G. Garrett Sr.; his mother, Dorothy Lusher; and his sister, Liana Wolff.
He is lovingly survived by his children: John G. Garrett III, Stephanie N. Garrett, Michelle A. Ostrander, and Tiffany A. Bradley.
He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Chase, Tyler, Skyler, Blake, Cole, Nathan, Kaleb, Nick, Sheila, Jonathon, Erica, Jessica, and Kolten; and his beloved great-grandchildren: Kash, Wesley, Emma, Paiden, Taryn, Teagen, Donte, Avani, Logan, Kai, Tinley, Xavi, Ahrya, and Kota. John is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Gary, Brittany, Ashley, Tyler, and Garrett, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathon Garrett, Tyler Garrett, Blake Garrett, Zachary Vinson, Cole Ostrander, and Nick Crowder.
A funeral service celebrating John's life will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel, 5740 W. 19th Street, Lubbock, Texas 79407.
John's legacy of faith, perseverance, compassion, and love for his family will live on in all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
