

John was born on August 6th, 1949 in Oklahoma City to Dr. Virgil R. and Sarah Singer Jobe. He attended elementary and middle school in Oklahoma City and graduated from Del City High in 1967. John attended Oklahoma University for a short time before joining the Navy in 1969. His Navy career took him to San Diego, Beeville, TX, Memphis, TN and Seoul, Korea. He returned to Oklahoma in 1974 and entered Central State in Edmond, OK. After graduating from Central State in 1977 John furthered his education at Oklahoma State University getting his Masters in Agronomy in 1979. He started his career in sorghum and cotton breeding in 1979, in Lubbock, working for Funk Seed Co. John did research in Texas, Arizona, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.
After 16 years in Agricultural Research and Development, John had the opportunity to be, “his own boss”, and purchased Pecan Ridge in 1995, a pecan shelling and retail business. John loved visiting with his customers who came from all over the South Plains and New Mexico. John and Vicki owned Pecan Ridge for 25 years then decided it was time to retire and enjoy grandchildren and travel.
John married the love of his life, Vicki Adcox, on August 9th, 1975. They were blessed with two daughters, 3 granddaughters, 4 step-grandchildren, and 1 step-great-grandchild.
John and Vicki attended Texas Tech football and basketball games, and enjoyed eating out with their special circle of friends. In their almost 49 years of marriage they travelled as much as health and time allowed, traveling to Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, and so many special places in the U.S.
John is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dr. Virgil Jobe Jr., sister, Sally, and in-laws J.V. and Bonnie Adcox.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Vicki, daughter Emie (Marcus) Young, of Lubbock, TX, daughter Libbie (Tim) Oursbourn, of Lubbock, TX, granddaughters, Channing and Kennsey Young and Rylynn Oursbourn, brother, Dr. William (Kay) Jobe, of Denver, CO, sister Judi (Tony) Jobe, of Colorado Springs, CO, sister-in-law Peggy (Gregg) Maxwell of Grapevine, TX, and brother-in-law Chuck (Kathy) Adcox, of Magnolia, TX, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. John was also blessed with a large circle of friends in Lubbock and Oklahoma, who have been beside John and Vicki through all of John’s many health challenges.
As John’s family and friends gather to celebrate his life may they find solace in the cherished memories they shared with John. Though he may be gone, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known John.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jesus Hidalgo and staff, Dr. Dennis Duriex and staff, Susan Stegemoeller, Covenant MICU staff, special staff on Covenant 7-South, Krista, Gill, Miriah, Hannah NP, Ben NP, as well as the staff at Hospice of Lubbock.

The family will host a gathering of family and friends on Thursday, May 23rd, from 5pm – 7 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home. A celebration of John’s life will be held Friday, May 24th at 11 am at St. Luke’s Methodist Church located at 3708 45th St. Lubbock, TX.
