John “Jack” Frank Pilger, age 73, died Wednesday, May 6, 2020, after a lengthy illness in Lubbock, TX. He was born 12/31/1946 in St. Paul, Ramsey, MN and often joked that “Everyone” celebrated his birthday.
Many of his formative years were spent in Europe due to his father’s profession. This enabled the family to travel and experience many sights there.
He returned to St. Paul to graduate his senior year from Monroe High School. Soon after he joined the U.S. Navy serving on the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. America and was a Vietnam Veteran. He attended the University of Minnesota and followed his career path to become a Preceptor Nursing Home Administrator. Having worked for several companies over the years he changed course and was employed by Texas Tech University Health Science Center/Montford Unit from where he retired in 2013.
He is survived by his wife Doris “Jo” of Lubbock, TX, a sister, JoAnn Marie Hoff (Doug) of Monroe, WA; sons, Bobby Pilger; Steven (Melissa) Pilger all of Lubbock, Richard (Misty) Pilger of Portland, TX; Jeff (Leota) Mitchell of Abilene, TX, daughters: Tamara Williams (Jason) of Blackwell, TX, Sherry Marx (Robert) of Belgrade, MT, Cindy (Andy) Wilson of Safety, Harbor, FL; also blessed with 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Leonard & Florence Josephine (Ollig) Pilger of St. Paul, MN; his sister Judith Helen Wetherill (Archie) of Maryland and recently his brother, James Richard (Bernice) Pilger of Farmington, MN.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m., May 12, 2020 at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel.
Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 p.m., at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Over the years he was cared for by Methodist Hospital, University Medical Center, The Garrison, The Plaza at Lubbock, and Beyond Faith/Hospice for which we are eternally grateful.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Beyond Faith/Hospice of Lubbock.
