Joseph Phillip Weldon was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on August 26, 1928. His father was Joseph Bennie Weldon; and Mother was Sarah Lawrence Durden. After marrying, they came to Texas to Georgia. When growing up, his family moved a lot and he attended schools in Texas, New Mexico, Kansas and Illinois. He graduated from South Beloit High School in South Beloit, Illinois in 1946. He served in the United States Navy from 1949-1951.
He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann Eisiminger Schuster of Beloit, Wisconsin in 1951 and they resided in Wichita Falls, Texas at that time. God blessed this union with 6 children; three girls and three boys.
In 1954, “Bro Joe” as he was called, felt God’s calling into the ministry and he attended Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas and graduated in 1960. He then went to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He ended up pastoring Baptist churches in Texas, Ohio and Kentucky. His last two pastorates were at Parkview Baptist Church in Plainview, Texas for 18 years and South Plains Baptist Church in South Plains, Texas for 16 years where he retired from the ministry.
Bro. Joe is survived by his wife Shirley, they were married 66 years; three sons: Joseph William Weldon “Jody” of Mason, Texas (Children: Kelly Renee Weldon Stillwall of Ohio, Joseph Matthew Weldon “Matt” and Amanda Nichole Weldon of Kentucky); Allen Dale Weldon “Dale” (wife Janet), of Louisville, Kentucky (children: Benjamin Allen Weldon “Ben” of California, Tyler Daniel Weldon (wife Amber) and Sarah Suzanne Wardley (husband Aaron) of Kentucky; John Mark Weldon (late wife Carmen), of Mansfield, Texas (children: James MacAndew (wife to be Lauren O’Neal) of Utah; three daughters: Jana Aleene Jones (husband Terry) of Lubbock, Texas (children: Kristina Suzanne Keesee (husband Jody) of Andrews, Texas, Julie Ann Batten (husband Bryan) of Shallowater, Texas, and Britney Kay Urbanczyk (husband Brandon) of Lubbock, Texas, Anne Marie Parker of Plainview, Texas (her children: Stephanie Anne Parker of Ohio, Kimberly Lynn Parker of Kentucky and Tina Marie Ismael (husband Samir) of Ohio. He has 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Suzanna Carol Weldon, all grandparents, both parents, a sister and a brother.
A Celebration of Life was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 9, 2018 at Resthaven Funeral Home Abbey Chapel with Navy Military Honors.
His favorite Bible verse is Psalms 118:24.
