Joy Inez Barton Gillard Rojas

Joy Inez Barton Gillard Rojas, 78, left us to be with the Lord on Friday, February 24, 2023 at her home in Lubbock. She was born in St. Louis, Oklahoma to Ralph Lee Barton and Bertha May O’Bryant Barton.

She pursued and obtained her bachelor’s degree in nursing at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX. She married Roger Gillard and had 3 children, Ginger Gillard Jeffcoat, Gary Gillard, and Doby Gillard. Later, she married Joe Rojas and had 1 child, Curtis Rojas and became a stepmother to Tommy Rojas.

She is preceded in death by both parents, her brothers Eugene Lee Barton, Willis Dale Barton, Bobbie Barton and her stepson, Tommy Rojas.

She is survived by her daughter Ginger Gillard Jeffcoat of Lubbock, son Gary Gillard of Lubbock, son Doby Gillard and partner Lisa Horn of Brock, son Curtis Rojas and wife Tracy Rojas of Seguin, her seven grandchildren, Jody Jeffcoat, Chris Jeffcoat, Alison Gillard, Maggie Gillard Reyes, Brittany Jackson, Jordan Rojas Longoria, Reece Rojas and six great grandchildren.

She wanted to be remembered as a loving, giving and good mother and grandmother. She loved her family, kids, grandkids, great grandkids and friends with all her might. She was grateful to have God in her life and tried to do God’s will in everything she did. She enjoyed cooking and was best known for her amazing deviled eggs and pineapple upside down cake. She valued honesty, education, family unity and forgiveness.

A celebration of life service funeral service for Joy will be held Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel, 5740 19th St., Lubbock, Texas with Reverend Sue Barton officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
