

Born December 17, 1932, in Crosby County, Texas, to L.D. and Beulah Phillips, the youngest of seven children. After graduating from Idalou High School and 2 years of business school, she married Joe Ray in 1951, with whom she ran a thriving business, spent time in Christian service, and welcomed two children: a daughter, Evanan, and a son, Jeff. She and Joe spent much of their time teaching Bible classes, visiting the sick, and opening their home to many activities, both to teens while their children were growing and to fellow members of the church. Joyce was dedicated to hospitality and fellowship, often feeding as many as 40 people in her home. Throughout her life, she believed in visiting the sick, and those who were confined to nursing homes and hospitals. She was widowed in 1991, she later married Hugh Brown, a longtime family friend, and continued the next 15 years in Christian Service and watching her 5 grandchildren also grow.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 6 older siblings, her 2 husbands, and her son. She is survived by her daughter, Evanan, her grandchildren, Tre’, Patrick (Geri), Michael (Natalia), Alaina, and Ashley (Thomas) and 6 great-grandchildren
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts instead be made to Sunset International Bible Institute, The SIBI AIM Program, or Sunset Solar Mission.
