Wanda Joyce Hancock (Raymond) was born on November 12th, 1938, to Forest and Ona Raymond in Woodrow, Texas. She married Durwood Donald Hancock on June 22, 1957, in Abernathy, Texas. Joyce and Donald were both well-known within the New Home community for building up a farming family business that lasted over 45 years, contributing to cotton farming growth within the region that benefited both the community and their family for many generations to come. Joyce and Donald both raised future farmers within their children and grandchildren who have continued to carry on the family tradition of cotton farming.
Joyce herself came from a farming family from East Texas. Joyce enjoyed cooking large meals for her family, hosting holiday gatherings with her family at their home, sewing and crafting, and traveling across the U.S. with Donald in their motor home. Joyce and Donald also cherished taking their children to rodeos, stock shows, and skiing trips to the lake on the weekends. Joyce also enjoyed studying Native-American culture and history and had many curios and collections of artifacts/ souvenirs that she acquired over the years on her and Donald’s travels.
Joyce was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who instilled her firm Christian beliefs within her family and taught them all how to put Christ first in their lives. Throughout their lives, Donald and Joyce had many dogs as companions, but none that were cherished as much as their beloved Katie. After the passing of Donald in December of 2019, Katie ensured that Joyce was well taken care of and gave her comfort all the way until her final days. Joyce was a woman who cared deeply for her family members and cherished every moment she spent with each one of them. Joyce and Donald’s marriage of over 62 years is a testament to all of us on what it means to find that special someone. Joyce’s compassion and commitment to her family and community will be dearly missed for years to come.
