Juanita was the first born child. She has 1 sister and 2 brothers. She met the love of her life, James Vaughn Carpenter in Lamesa, Texas. James joined the United States Navy SeaBees in November, 1947. When his first tour of duty ended, he came home to Lamesa, Texas and on April 15, 1950, he married Juanita. They celebrated 71 years of marriage.
Juanita worked as an operator for the telephone company and also sewed children’s clothes for Dottie Dan Clothing factory. Upon moving to Lubbock she worked for Montgomery Wards in the cosmetic department. Albertson’s recruited her to work for them. She was the cosmetic manager for them until she retired.
Juanita loved having a beautiful yard with many flowers of many different colors. She was especially fond of Ruidoso, New Mexico where she spent many vacations there with her husband, brother Billy and his wife Sue. She traveled with her brother and his family to many states and enjoyed seeing the United States. She played with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren often making up games, playing records and, of course, feeding them.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband James Vaughn Carpenter, her parents, John Henry Howard and Susie Mae Howard, her brother Arnold Howard and son Jamie Paul Howard, her sister, Delores Ann Weighill, great grandson, Joshua Wright, and great-great granddaughter, Promise Johnson.
Juanita is survived by Louise Plank and husband Jeff of Lubbock, Texas; Teresa Short and husband Bruce of Lubbock, Texas; Marsha Rice and husband Lee of Lubbock, Texas; brother Henry Nathaniel, (Billy) of Blueridge, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 19 great-great grandchildren and
many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express our appreciation to the staff of Beyond Faith Hospice for their care and love for Juanita during the last year.
There will be a visitation on Friday, July 23, 2021, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home in the Abbey chapel. Interment will be at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.
