Judy Carol Tyson

To know Judy was to know someone who cared deeply and freely. She was loving, thoughtful, incredibly giving and selfless in wats that often went unnoticed because helping others came so naturally to her.

Judy was an avid sports fan. She loved watching her Texas Tech Red Raiders and her Kansas City Chiefs. She even asked to watch motocross on her laptop during her last hours (while having the Tech game on the TV).

Judy had a special love for animals-especially dogs. Anyone that knew Judy knew just how much she loved dogs.

Judy had a lifelong passion for bowling. She was an active and dedicated member of the Lubbock Women’s Bowling Association for many years. Bowling was more than a hobby for Judy, it brought her friendships, travel, competition, and countless memories. She even had the opportunity to share her love of bowling by teaching/coaching many kids. She left an impact on people far beyond her own family.

Judy married the love of her life, Jack Tyson, in 1994. They enjoyed life to the fullest until his untimely passing in December of 2015.

Judy loved having her family together. She didn’t need a special occasion to show her love. Her love was present in everyday moments.

Judy spent her last few years living on the same property with her daughter and son-in-law. She was able to see her grandsons and family daily. She was able to be a part of their daily lives in a way that her family will carry on forever.

Judy is survived by her daughter DeeDee Halpain (Steve), stepdaughters Christy Richter (Steve) Leah Houchin (Phillip), and four amazing grandsons Carter and Colby Halpain and Jacob and Justin Martin. She is also survived by her loving brother Tim Tapley (Susan) from Richmond, Tx and awesome nephew Todd Tapley (Jennifer) from Ponchatoula, La.

Her family will always remember the way she showed up. They will remember her strength, her generosity, her thoughtfulness, her sense of devotion, and the countless ways she cared for others. Judy’s life was measured not only by the years she lived, but by the people she loved and the lives she touched. Her greatest legacy is the family she leaves behind and the love she poured into them.

She gave so much of herself to others. She loved fiercely. She cared deeply. She showed up. She gave without asking for anything in return. She will be missed more than words can say.
